October 2019
Police arrested three people, including two Thai women (26 and 34 years old) in Wellawatte. They used to advertise their service on the Internet. Police officers communicated via internet like customers. Once they agree, they use car to pick up customers. The manager, who leads the business, is from Nugegoda.

A massage center was raid by Police in Kollupitiya. There are 23 Thailand women have been arrested. Police stated that massage center functioned as a Ayurvedic massage center while promoting activities that against the Sri Lankan law. The center had been operated by two Sri Lankan ladies. The suspects ages were between 20 and 40 years old.

September 2019
Police raid a massage parlor in Galle Road, Mt. Lavinia, and they arrested 3 people, including two women. The manager of the center and the two women who were arrested. The arrested persons are aged from 31 to 42. They are from Moneragala, Kalawana and Lellopitiya areas.

Massage centers that were operating in Kadawatha and Makola areas have been surrounded by police. Nine people, including six women, have been arrested. Among them, two of them were managers. Arrested people age between 24 to 49 years and they were from Colombo, Kadawatha, Habaraduwa, Ja-Ela, Embilipitiya, Parakaduwa, Tissa Varawewa and Meegalewa areas.

Six persons, including four women, have been arrested in Negombo. The police media unit said that the suspects were arrested in Ethukala, Negombo. Two women from Uzbekistan. Other two women and two men from Paragastota, Kurunegala, Peliyagoda and Colombo. The arrested persons were between the ages of 17 to 42.

August 2019
A massage center has been surrounded by police in Kochchikade, Negombo. Seven women, including managers were arrested. The women arrested were between the ages of 20 and 45 years. They were from Sevanagala, Palaviya, Thamaranwela, Padukka, Pamunukota and Tambowa.

An Ayurvedic massage center in Mount Lavinia has been raided by Police. Three females and massage center's manager were arrested. They are 36, 37, 31 and 22 years old.

Manager and 2 women were arrested at an Ayurvedic massage center in Kurana, Negombo. The manager was a 50 years old man from Seeduwa, and women are 26 and 38 years old from Kurunagala and Medawachchiya.

Eight foreign nationals arrested in Kollupitiya due to their activities that against Sri Lankan law that related to massage and spa. All of them are women. However, their passports refer them as male. Seven women are from Philippines and one woman from Russia.

July 2019
Three women have been arrested during a raid carried out by the police in Colombo. The center in Kotte Road, Rajagiriya has been raid by police. Police said that three women have been arrested from the massage center. There were 31, 32 and 42 years old women from Biyagama and Kandana.

Reflexology : Introduction to Reflexology massage

Reflexology is a type or method of massage. The term reflexology comes from a belief. It says there are some points on the feet, hands and ears. Through these points, we can connect to the whole body and its each area. Therefore, these points can reflect entire body. Reflexology can bring relaxation to the full body by those points. It can perform as part of massage. Eg: During Ayurvedic massage or Shirodhara, you may request it. If so, it could be part of the whole service. Sometimes, people would like to get reflexology only.

Reflexology: Reflecting body by body parts

During the reflexology, therapist will activate points in the feet, hands and ears.  It has a series of techniques. Basically, therapist soaks, smoothens with an exfoliation cream, and then massages the certain areas. Next, they mask to facilitate detoxification, and then finish with power or lotion. Mostly, they put mush work on foot. Sometimes, foot would soak with sea salt/Epsom salt/eucalyptus oil, exfoliate with peppermint and apply rosemary loofah/kelp mask. Ayurvedic Massage : Introduction to Sri Lankan Ayurvedic Spa

Ayurvedic massage is a part of traditional Ayurveda alternative medicine. Ayurveda is believed that the knowledge received from god. It was developed in India and spread among Indian continent and beyond. Some academic studies suggest it was developed from prehistoric time. Sri Lanka has very long historical connection with Ayurvedic medicine (BC 437) and it has world’s oldest (Ayurvedic) hospital.

Ayurvedic massage

Sri Lanka practices similar Ayurveda of India. However, it differs by using herbs. The country has about 60 Ayurvedic hospitals, more than 200 dispensaries and approximately 20,000 registered practitioners. Almost every spas in Sri Lanka offer Ayurvedic massage. However, quality and standard can differ per centers. Some centers just hold the name “Ayurveda”, but not deliver real treatment. The following checklist can help you to find real centers in Sri Lanka.

• Government approved centers (Ayurvedic department registration number is compulsory, not spa registration)
• The center should have an experienced doctor.
• Well-trained therapists
• Center should have necessary equipment and fully setup (Ordinary setup cannot support. Eg: A single spa bed is not enough)
• Variety of oils and herbs (Since the treatment has various types)
• It could not cost for low cost like 2,000 rupees since it obtains some valuable herbs, oils and flowers.

Pure Ayurvedic massage can balance energy, movement and digestion in a person through massage techniques on certain energy points as well as create a sense of harmony of body and mind. Since it based on traditional belief, it depends on several practices. It believes universe and ourselves connect through five elements (panchamahabhutas) such as air, fire, space, water and earth. These five can make up the three doshas or tridoshas, and namely vata, pitta and kapha. It can control body type, mind/emotion and personality. Therefore, Ayurvedic massage could be a holistic treatment and well-trained therapist referred as sculptor. Sometimes it connects with Mantras, a kind of silent prayer that chants by therapist during massage. Also, meditative music and good smell or odor can fulfill the process.

Traditionally Ayurveda body treatments have various types of massages. The following table shows the significant types.

Aromatherapy	Using of essential oils for treatment. It can perform without Ayurvedic methods.
Bindi	Bindi means "point" or "origin" and it refers as Bindi treatment. It could be hydro soak, botanical mask, exfoliation and herbal wrap.
Dosha wrap	It is like Bindi treatment, but focuses much on wrap. It could be custom blend of oils, exfoliation, massage and wrap by warm towels or sheets.
Garshan	One or two therapists briskly massage the client wearing raw silk gloves.
Kati basti	It is a massage that uses heat & specific oils to address lower back pain.
Pinda	One or two therapists who hold muslin bags full of rice, milk herbs massage the client. It could give very relaxation and smooth skin.
Pizzichilli	Large amounts of warm oil pours over the body while two or more therapists perform massage.
Reflexology	Some points on the feet, hands and ears get massage with cream and finish with mask
Shirodhara	A thin, thread-like drizzle of refined sesame oil is poured across the forehead to bring calmness of mind, body and spirit.
Swedana	An herbal steam bath gives after a massage.
Udvartana	It is an invigorating massage delivered by an herbal paste.
Vishesh	A firm massage that uses deep strokes and squeezing movements.

Due to requests to our Facebook page, here we would like to share some words about massage center in Jaffna. As per today, there is standard or registered spa in Jaffna. You might see advertisements and Google map links for beauty spas which is technically beauty parlors that mostly run by female for female. It does not mean massage centers.

There are a few young men in Jaffna provides home and hotel visits services. Even though, the information is not reliable since it published in non-standard web directories. Popular pages like HitAd of Sunday Times never published such services.

Some hotels/resort in Jaffna had an idea to bring massage in Jaffna. Notably, Managing Director of Tilko Jaffna City Hotel interview was published in Daily News (February 1, 2017). He has been expressed the idea of introducing spa to Jaffna. However, there is no such service as per the official website of Tilko Jaffna City Hotel.

Mostly, services are highly available, where tourist’s presences are high. Rest of the districts gradually develop the service after the end of war. Sri Lankan, Thai, Japanese, Chinese, Malay, Indonesian, South Korean, Russian, Singaporean and other nationals are available to serve as masseuses and masseurs.

Generally, you could spot these therapies at hotels and spa centers. Some hotels do not have the facility, but you may request therapists or masseurs to visit your room. Sri Lankan massage centers should not give any "forbidden services" that prevent by law of Sri Lanka, especially as per Article 360(c). You may hear that some spa centers that breach the law have been raid by Law Enforcement unit. Therefore, you must aware of the place.

Review and ratings for massage experience

We collect users or clients experience and summarize as review. We do not support some massage parlors and neglect others. We will give our review from neutral view. Review and ratings might change later if parlors change their service to best or worst. But, it will not effect in old posts.

Rating will be based on reviews and it will be maximum 10 and minimum 1, The rating have six components such as massage, looks, attitude, place/facility, overall and WIR (Will I Return).

• Massage - here quality of service will be rated out of 10. Sometime you cannot get quality service due to inexperienced or improper method.
• Looks - generally clients are male and they prefer to get service by good looking masseuses. Likewise, female clients expect handsome masseurs.
• Attitude - many male expect a friendly or girlfriend kind of masseuses. In some cases, masseuses expect big tip for their service, which gives negative impact.
• Place - parlor should have clean and good facility including at bathroom. Sometimes, it requires privacy too. A/C and non-A/C also consider when it comes to rating. Some places have noise free and calm place. Maybe, a cup of herbal tea and music would be appreciated.
• Overall - if parlor has best facility with bad looking service provider, will affect the parlor. Likewise, all facts and figures will be summarized in “Overall”. Therefore, overall rating is the main fact that will switch on or off the user.
• WIR (Will I Return) - it is key area or it will be the nutshell of rating. It could be “Yes”, “No” or “Maybe”. The one word finalize all.
